Woman Found Dead in Marathon
A woman was found dead by a fisherman Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area just north of the Vaca Cut Bridge in Marathon.
The angler was fishing from shore when he found the woman. He called the Sheriff’s Office about 1 p.m.
The woman’s identity, as well as the case overall, remains under investigation.
There were obvious signs of foul play.
Autopsy results are pending.
Major Crimes detectives are speaking to a person of interest in the case.
Sheriff Rick Ramsay stressed there is no pending threat to the public regarding the case.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman. She is a 50- to 60-year-old, white, female with sandy brown hair. She is about 5-foot-7 and weighs between 150 to 180 pounds.
