Monroe County Emergency Management Holds Annual Hurricane Preparedness Exercise

Monroe County Emergency Management Director Marty Senterfitt led the County’s annual hurricane preparedness exercise at the Emergency Operations Center in Marathon.

MARATHON, FL – Monroe County Emergency Management Director Marty Senterfitt led the County’s annual hurricane preparedness exercise today at the Emergency Operations Center in Marathon.

There were 112 participants from 37 entities, including: local, state and federal government agencies; the Sheriff’s Office; utility companies; hospitals; and non-profit organizations. Monroe County Mayor George Neugent and Monroe County Mayor Pro Tem David Rice also attended.

This year, the format focused on specific tasks that must be performed in time of disaster.

Since he began as the County’s Emergency Management director about a year ago, Senterfitt has worked with all of the Florida Keys’ municipalities and other emergency responders on a major goal: “One Community, One Plan.”

Jon Rizzo, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Key West, also provided an update on the 2017 Hurricane Season outlook.
