Future Firefighter Scholarship

Key West High School graduating student Billie Jo Carter is the recipient of the Richard and Nina Wardlow Memorial Scholarship. The award was presented during Class Night by Key West Fire Department’s Captain David Zarate, the first recipient of this award 20 years ago, and Captain Jason Barroso the Fire Academy facilitator.

Billie Jo was a student in this year’s fire academy. She plans to use the money to further her firefighting education and become a firefighter with the Key West Fire Department. She is already enrolled into the next EMT class at the college and will complete Firefighter II with Monroe County Fire College in Grassy Key.
