Mosquito Control Director Gets Flu Shot, You Should, Too! Andrea Leal, Florida Keys Mosquito Control Director and Operations Director gets her flu shot for this year’s flu season at the Gato Building in Key West, administered by Katie Collard, RN of the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County.

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County wants to encourage all Floridians to do their part to prevent getting seasonal flu and spreading it to others by getting the flu vaccine. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop protection against the flu so it is important to get your flu shot early. Flu strains change from year to year so it is important to get the flu shot this year even if you got one last year. The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older. Receiving the flu vaccine can help prevent the flu virus from spreading to our most vulnerable populations, including older adults, pregnant women, and people who have certain medical conditions like asthma and a compromised immune system. Flu vaccines are available at the health department clinics in Key West, Marathon, and Tavernier. In addition to the health department clinics, the flu vaccine is also offered in many locations, including doctor’s offices, clinics, pharmacies, and health centers.
