Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Andrew Leird was taken to Mariners Hospital Tuesday following a 12:19 p.m. two-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 98. Deputy Leird did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was the only person taken to the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash which briefly closed northbound traffic on U.S. 1.

Deputy Leird has been a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office since 1998 and has been serving on the Traffic Enforcement Unit since 2003. He is also often seen at community events as a member of the Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
