City Commission Commends U12 Boys Travel Team

Mayor Craig Cates and the entire City Commission last night proclaimed Southernmost Soccer Association U12 Boys Travel Team Day.

The team won the Bronze Medal at the 2016 American Youth Soccer Organization’s National Tournament. The U12 group consisted of 24 teams traveling from as far as Hawaii, California, Michigan and Illinois. The Key West team competed in several tournaments around the state, taking first place in the Hurricane Cup, where they proudly representing the City of Key West and earned the invitation to participate in the 2016 National Tournament.

“These outstanding young men are an example of successes that can be accomplished through commitment, team work and good sportsmanship,” reads the proclamation.

Mayor Craig Cates presented the award to the entire team: Jonathan Bahri, Gregory Barnes, Karel Bublak, Aaron Cassidy, Jack Castillo, Michael Cates, Jaxon Duplessis, Drake Fowler, Matthew Fowler, Jonathan Gvili, Logan Kirchner and Beckham McLeod. In addition, the commission gave a special thank you to the Head Coach Alex Yanovych and Assistant Coaches Clive McLeod and Jose Bahri.

The team reciprocated the recognition by presenting Mayor Cates with a team jersey.
