The 40th Annual Swim Around Key West recently donated $4,000 to the Key West High School Cross Country Team. More than 170 swimmers participated in the 12.5-mile event on June 4, 2016. A portion of their entry fees supports the donation to the Key West student runners.

The historic, round-the-island event is the longest-running sporting event in the Florida Keys, founded in 1977. The 41st Annual Swim Around Key West will be held on June 28, 2017, with a start and finish at Smathers Beach.

Swim Organizer Bill Welzien is pictured presenting the check to Cross Country team captains Owen Allen and Nicole Matysik during the Monroe County Cross Country Championships last month at Key West Golf Club.
