U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer Boating Skills and Seamanship Class March 4th and 11th
The U.S.C.G. Auxiliary Flotilla 13-1 two-day Boating Skills and Seamanship Class will be offered on Saturday, March 4th and Saturday, March 11th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, 33 Quay Rd, Key West. Upon successful completion of the course students will be awarded a certificate which meets the licensing requirements for the State of Florida Boating Education ID card. Instructors include Captain Kathy, Captain Sean and other local Auxiliary members. Before Florida Keys boaters take to the waters, know the basics from America’s largest boating educator. Attendance both Saturdays is required.
The Boating Skills and Seamanship Class covers the basics of choosing, equipping, trailering, and handling a small to mid-sized powerboat. It also addresses line handling and knot tying, chart use and navigation, the rules of the nautical road, the basics of weather on the water and radio communications.
