Update Sept 3, 2016 11:39 am: The Sheriff reports missing person Jeffrey Dunn has been located near Paradise Drive on No Name Key. He is in good condition. He told deputies he went for a walk after an argument with his girlfriend and got lost.
A 56 year old man has been reported missing and detectives say they would like the public’s help locating him.
56 year old Jeffery Dunn of Big Pine Key spent the night Tuesday night at his girlfriend’s apartment on Witter’s Lane, Summerland Key. His girlfriend said he left the apartment at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, saying he was going to get cigarettes and would be home soon. He did not return.
Dunn reportedly works as the general manager at the No Name Pub; another man who works at the pub says Dunn did not show up for work Wednesday, which is unlike him. Dunn’s vehicle, a grey Mercury SUV with New York license tags, was found parked at the corner of Paradise Drive and Watson Boulevard. A witness said the vehicle had been there since at least 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The vehicle was unlocked, his wallet was inside and the keys were in the ignition.
The Sheriff’s Office contacted Dunn’s cell phone provider. They said his cell phone has been turned off since 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Federal Fish and Game Commission searched the area but they did not find Dunn.
Major Crimes Detective Dawn Agusto has been assigned as the lead investigator on this case. Anyone who has any information which may help locate Dunn should contact the Sheriff’s office at 305-289-2410.
I heard something about this yesterday in the Big Pine Key Winn-Dixie parking lot, from Steve Estes, who publishes the News-Barometer on Big Pine. Steve said word was around 30 law enforcement vehicles, sheriff, state, fed, were on No Name Key.
This morning having breakfast in Coco’s Kitchen next to that Winn-Dixie, I asked my waitress if she knew what it was about? She told me the manager of No Name Key Pub went missing, and they were searching for him.
Right after that, several young me in state of Florida fire and air conservation uniforms came into Coco’s to have breakfast. I’d never seen uniforms like their’s before. I asked one of the young men if they were involved in the search for the missing manager of the Pub? Yes, They were out in the woods on No Name for hours yesterday, tromping around, with sniffer dogs which had been given the scent by letting them go into the missing man’s car. No sign of him yet, they said.
I was up Big Pine way because I’m staying a few days with a friend of mine who lives on Cudjoe Key. I had ridden the Key West Transit bus to Marathon from Cudjoe to Big Pine. Right now, I’m sitting in the Big Pine library, using their Wi-Fi. I lived on Little Torch Key in 2006 and 2007, and from 2010-2013. Familiar terrain.
