The City Commission and the community had the opportunity this week to honor Key West Fire Chief Michael Davila for his 30 years of service to the City of Key West.

“Chief Davila has served in almost every position in the department since he came aboard in 1986,” said City Manager Jim Scholl. Chief Davila was a captain in several capacities until he was appointed as Fire Marshal in 2008. A year later he was appointed Division Chief of Operations. In June of this year, when former Chief David Fraga retired, Chief Davila was appointed to the position.

“When I first stepped into the station,” said Davila, “I was met by Capt. Billy Wardlow.” Wardlow, who now sits on the City Commission, is himself a retired Key West Fire Chief.

Davila thanked the commission for providing the support that enables the success of the department.

“I want to thank the firefighters for the work they do that has allowed us to become a Class 1 rated fire department,” he said. “It’s my privilege to lead such an esteemed organization.”
