Walmart to Pay $15 Minimum

letter

Dear Editor:

I can’t help but to inquire about the Walmart detractors now that Walmart raised the minimum wage at all Walmart stores to $15 an hour. That will really put the pressure on employers to pay a fair wage to attract the best and the brightest to work for them. What say you now? Walmart will bring jobs and jobs are what we need. Jobs with benefits and opportunity.

  1. Mr. Sullivan you are grossly misinformed.

walmart is not raising its wages to anything near $15/hr. according to walmart itself, it will raise its training wage to 9, followed by a raise to 10 after 6 months. the only people who will earn that 15 of which you speak, are a potential few who rise to department manager level, and that does not happen until 2016. it is also not a blanket raise for all of them as walmart says that only “some” of them will earn that amount.

walmart continues to be the job, opportunity, and community killer that it has always been.

    so, what you say now?

  2. Sorry, I am man enough to accept when I am wrong. I got my information from a sound bite. Therefore it is incomplete of course. I still say in this case Walmart will be a benefit to the lower Keys. There will be jobs maybe not paying as much as I had hoped but, none the less there will be jobs that pay as much or more than most of the current employers pay the workers now. So, with that type of pressure employers will have to up their game to get the better more reliable employees. Still creating opportunity in an area where there is none now. Only, cock fighting and waste land like salt ponds and such.
