Get fit with festival-like 5k fun as May Sands Montessori hosts their 7th annual One Human Race Colorful Run and Jingle Jog on Sunday, December 3rd from 8:00am-11:00am.  The holiday-themed run and after-party is a perfect way to celebrate the 5k season and gives back with registration fees that support free public Montessori education in Key West.  Runners are encouraged to embrace the season’s spirit and dress in their favorite holiday costume garb or winter whites, and Santa’s speedy elves will be on hand to offer jingle bells for all.

The family-friendly event begins and ends at Higgs Beach Park beside Salute restaurant with a beautiful course that stretches flat and fast out and back along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and offers t-shirts for the first 150 entrants, a one mile run and a ½ mile “Fun Run” for kids on the White Street pier, an assortment of raffle prizes generously donated by local business sponsors, a rainbow of holiday color to welcome runners as they cross the finish line, keepsake medals, and healthy post-race snacks.

Florida’s charter schools – innovative schools of choice made available to students through a lottery system – are publicly funded, but at a lower rate than traditional district schools. As a tuition-free, K-8 public charter school, the May Sands Montessori School relies on fundraising efforts throughout the year to cover the costs associated with providing public Montessori programming. Proceeds from the One Human Race Colorful 5K and Jingle Jog assist in the school’s efforts to provide Montessori education for free, while also promoting physical fitness.

Though a school-organized event, they encourage the greater community’s participation.

“It takes the support of our island community to make this event successful,” says Barras.  “We are very thankful to have so many volunteers as well as local business sponsors who help promote the One Human Race Colorful 5K and Jingle Jog.”
