I’ve tried to remain silent, hoping Donald Trump would finally say or do something so outrageous that he would have to bow out of his race for the ultimate bully pulpit. He has said, “I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and people would still vote for me.” That didn’t do it. He has called Mexicans rapists and murderers, demanded all Muslims be kept out of the country indefinitely, called Pope Francis a stupid weakling, yet he is reserving judgement on the KKK. All those things haven’t done it. So I just want to go on the record that I do not support Donald Trump, in case anyone mistook my silence for approval of this guy.

Comedian, John Oliver was in the same pickle as I; hoping The Donald would self-destruct and go away. John was hoping he wouldn’t have to talk about our wannabe Narcissist in Chief because, “Every time his name is said out loud he has a shattering orgasm…”Not a pretty picture, but you certainly get what Oliver is saying about DT’s massive ego. John is a hilarious and very insightful guy that explains every misconception and wild untruth that Trump’s followers are NOT interested in knowing, but that could no longer be ignored. There is a link below to his show.

Given the proper socio/political growing conditions the fungus of authoritarianism begins to spread as fast as black mold in the post Katrina lower Ninth Ward.It happened in 1930’s Germany and as far as I can see the average US citizen isn’t any wiser than his/her Germanic cousins. Perhaps evenless. As with The Adolf, The Benito and The Donald there is a common thread of narcissism that is so obvious the comparison is unavoidable.

DT has been publicly diagnosed with clinical Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This public diagnosis is a no-no, as pointed out in a Psychology Today piece by Randi Kreger. The so-called “Goldwater Rule” arose after the publication of a 1964 Fact magazine article in which psychiatrists were polled about Senator Barry Goldwater’s fitness to be president. Senator Goldwater brought a $2 million suit against the magazine and its publisher; the Supreme Court awarded him $1 in compensatory damages and $75,000 in punitive damages.By today’s standards, Goldwater would be considered the poster child for excellent mental fitness, but I digress.

Fortunately, the “Goldwater Rule”does not apply to journalists. Randi Kreger liberally quotes professionals in the field of mental health. “He’s so classic [NPD] that I’m archiving video clips of [Trump] to use in workshops because there’s no better example of his characteristics,” said clinical psychologist George Simon, who conducts lectures and seminars on manipulative behavior. “Otherwise, I would have had to hire actors and write vignettes. He’s like a dream come true.”Personally, “dream come true” is a phrase I would not attach to Trump.

“He’s very easy to diagnose,” said psychotherapist Charlotte Prozan. “In the first debate, he talked over people and was domineering. He’ll do anything to demean others, like tell Carly Fiorina he doesn’t like her looks. ‘You’re fired!’ would certainly come under lack of empathy. And he wants to deport immigrants, but [two of] his wives have been immigrants.

Prozan added, “There is help available, but it doesn’t look like the help people are used to. It’s not insight-oriented psychotherapy, because narcissists already have insight. They’re aware; the problem is, they don’t care. They know how you’d like them to act; the problem is, they’ve got a different set of rules.”

DT’s mental illness has been established, but how to explain his adoring fans?My friend, Wade Holliday, put it this way, “Trump’s followers will follow him to the end because he validates their racist views either stated or latent. They eschew common sense, the constitution, and even their religion because he gives voice to the racial views that his supporters have. People that say Trump is breaking the status quo are actually saying that increasing minority equal rights are diminishing their white, male dominated, Christian, conservative [perceived] superiority.”

They are the fearful nativist got-miners that hate anyone that isn’t white, wrapped in a flag and thanking Jesus for writing the Constitution. They are ill-informed if informed at all. Where did these people come from? Perhapsthey are the result of thirty five years of deceitful Reagan “trickle down” voodoo economics, government sanctioned union busting, and the destruction of Wall St regulation. Perhapsthey are the result of thirty five years of siphoning public money into private pockets weakening education, social safety netsand theproliferation of a war based economy. Perhaps they are the result of thirty years of radical right talk radio nonsense and twenty years of FOX’s Ministry of Corporate Propaganda incessantly blithering on about how all the above is good for us.

People that have never been out of the country, especially people under forty are clueless as to how inaccurate their world view is. How could they know? Their formative years have known nothing but Reaganomics, endless wars that they have been brainwashed to “support”. They have been sold a colossal bill of goods on America’s “greatness”. It has been drummed into them, without any significant actual datato back it up, how we are superior to all other nations on the planet that we reluctantly share. (Go see “Where To Invade Next” if you want to find out just how “exceptional” we have become.)

Mark Twain wisely observed the necessity of exposure to other lands and cultures in order to have a healthy perception of the world around us. He explained it this way, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” I’d love to hear Mark Twain’s thoughts on The Donald.
