Celebrate the most magical night of summer as the 10th annual Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle unfolds, 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, August 6, at historic Fort East Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd.

Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle was created to celebrate the Keys creative community—to give artists a voice and platform to share the power of their visions. Everyone attending is invited to be a co-creator at this colorful and spontaneous festivity–a wonderland of costumed revelers, interactive art projects, and stages featuring artists of local and national renown. Attire ranges from Key West cool to Midsummer’s Magical, with a King and Queen of Midsummer’s Night chosen from among the best costumed.

This year’s family-friendly Spectacle includes a Grand Dream Mural Project facilitated by artist Amanda Johnson that will engage more than 50 participants of all ages; Magic Lantern Light Show Projections by Nicholas Bergery; Colossal Magic Bubbles by Bill Becker; dancing performed by Southernmost Dance Theatre 2, Key West Comparsa, and Southernmost Shimmies; fire dancing with Michelle Muse; festooned pirates with sword games and their thee-piece band Tricome complete with sea shanties; Cynthia Morrison performing as Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons; hula-hooping, fortune-telling, and art-making; some of Key West’s best singers, sculptors, poets, and storytellers; and musicians orchestrated by bandleader Peter Diamond. Food and beverages will be available throughout the event.

Young performers from Allison Mayer’s Southernmost Dance Theatre Youth Company are set to enchant again at the 2016 Midsummer’s Night Dream & Spectacle on August 6 at Fort East Martello.

Co-produced by Key West Art & Historical Society and Michael Shields’ Java Studios, “It’s a night when the veil between this world and the next is thin, and powerful forces are abroad. Romances flourish, affairs are begun, mystery and mischief abound. It all begins with a dream,” said Shields. “Come watch the stars or share your own.”
