Capt. JR Torres recently presented Detective Karl Malsheimer with a Life Saving Award for his quick actions and response that ended up saving a man’s life.

On July 1, 2015, Detective Karl Malsheimer was on duty downtown when he heard a woman scream and saw a man on the ground. After an initial assessment, he observed that the victim was unresponsive and no longer breathing. With the assistance of a Good Samaritan, Detective Malsheimer began CPR and called rescue. While CPR was administered, the victim moved then began gasping for breath. Detective Malsheimer continued to maintain the victim’s status until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.
