Brewster Chamberlin to Speak
At Friends of the Key West Library Series

Monday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m., the Key West Friends of the Key West Library will present well-known local writer, Brewster Chamberlin as speaker of its lecture series at the Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St. Admission is free. Seating is on a first come first served basis, and will begin at 5:30.

Chamberlin has written several books, including a novel, a memoir, travelogues, short stories, essays and poetry. During a lengthy career as professor and archivist he also authored and coauthored numerous books and articles on 20th century European history. He is currently working on a series of novels set in Berlin during the first half of the 20th century.

His most recent book, which he will be discussing at his lecture, is The Hemingway Log: A Chronology of His Life and Times. Drawing on biographies, memoirs, and various Hemingway collections and websites, as well as a full range of original sources such as letters, fishing logs, notebooks, and manuscripts, The Hemingway Log presents an extensive and accurate chronology of Hemingway’s life and times. In the process, it clears up many of the inconsistencies and factual errors that riddle accounts of the author’s life and work.

Paul Hendrickson, author of acclaimed book, Hemingway’s Boat: Everything He Loved in Life, and Lost, has noted that “. . . for more than a dozen years, Chamberlin has been compiling and wonderfully annotating and continuously updating what amounts to almost a daybook calendar of Hemingway’s life.”

Brewster Chamberlin lives in Key West, where he serves as research associate at the Key West Art and Historical Museum. He recently served on the boards of the Friends of the Key West Library and the Durrell School of Corfu, Greece, named after the brothers Lawrence and Gerald Durrell.
