Key West Art & Historical Society’s film series continues on Thursday, November 10 at 6:00pm in the Helmerich Research & Learning Center at the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street with “To the Lighthouse,” a faithful dramatization of Virginia Woolf’s 1927 novel about a close-knit family who find their relationships unraveling during an extended summer holiday.

To the Lighthouse is a 1983 made-for-television film based on the novel by Virginia Woolf, a story that centers on the Ramsay family and their visits to the Isle of Skye in Scotland between 1910 and 1920, with a plot that becomes secondary to its philosophical introspection. The novel is cited as a key example of the stream-of-consciousness literary technique, including little dialogue and almost no action. Even still, the film, adapted by Hugh Stoddart, directed by Colin Gregg, and produced by Alan Shallcross, was nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award in the Best Single Drama category in 1984.

Made possible in part by the generosity of the Helmerich Trust, the film is offered in conjunction with The Society’s Distinguished Speaker Series presentation on Florida Straits Lighthouses by Eric Martin.
