It’s been a hell of a year for Michael Gillis.

While in the hospital fighting stage 4 cancer, he endured emergency surgery on his back when an infection was discovered that was dissolving his spine. A few weeks after surgery his ribs got broken in a car accident, and he was nearly killed by his double dose of radiation and chemotherapy treatments, with airlifts twice to Miami.

Michael Gillis is a local jazz guitar master who has performed with James Brown, The Count Basie All Stars, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Four Tops & Gladys Knight to name a few. With a carreer that spanned over 50 years, he performed on the television shows of Johnny Carson, Dinah Shore, Merv Griffin, Joey Bishop and Steve Allen.

Now against all odds, Gillis has beat his cancer into remission and is healing his back and ribs enough to return to the stage.

For the next two Friday Afternoons “Poolside Cocktails & Tunes” at the Patio Bar at 525 United street, Rock Solomon will be joined by the living Jazz legend and now recent cancer survivor, Michael Gillis.

Live swing-jazz duo – Free Admission – All Ages. Shows start at 3:30pm on Friday Afternoons: 11/13 & 11/20.
