Horace O’Bryant to Transition to One School Start Time for the New School Year

All Horace O’Bryant School students, kindergarten through eighth grade, will begin classes at 8:40 a.m., beginning the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. School ends at 3:45 p.m.

Horace O’Bryant School joins Sugarloaf, Key Largo, and Plantation Key schools, as a kindergarten through eighth grade school with a single student start time.

According to HOB Principal Christina McPherson, kindergarten students may be dropped off in the cafeteria at 8:15.  First through fifth grade students may report directly to their classrooms at 8:15 and middle school students may arrive on campus at 8:15. Students are not to be dropped off in the back of the school.

Mrs. McPherson said the school will provide the PLUS program (Playful Learning Under Supervision), an opportunity that parents and guardians usually have to pay for, for free for any students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents and guardians can fill out a form to participate in the program. Parents and guardians will choose an option from a list of structured, engaging programming, like tutoring, health and physical fitness activities, sewing, reading camp and time spent in the media center, computer/tech time, and math intervention. Students can participate from 7:45 to 8:15, beginning the first day of school, August 16th, and will have to be dropped off by a parent. Any students riding the bus are not eligible to participate, because of scheduling.

HOB School Principal Christina McPherson said the transition and the opportunity to offer the PLUS program free of charge for students, are exciting ones. “Horace O’Bryant is looking forward to a single start time to increase student achievement while assisting families with a morning PLUS program that will promote academic success.”

Elementary Students: Drop-off/Pick up for elementary students is located in the loop in front of the cafeteria. Students should enter school through the cafeteria doors. Students only may enter classrooms beginning at 8:15 AM.
