Flagler’s tenacity: the story of the Over-Sea railroad presented at Custom House Museum—In spite of engineering challenges and an inhospitable environment, Henry Morrison Flagler accomplished his dream of completing the 128-mile railway. But there is more to the story than an amazing engineering feat; there were also challenges related to capital versus labor tensions, the government’s overreaching influence, and the media’s interest in capitalizing on those tensions.

On Thursday, April 21, John Blades, Director Emeritus of the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, will offer a presentation entitled, “Much More than Meets the Eye: The Context of Building the Over-Sea Railroad” as part of Key West Art & Historical Society’s Distinguished Speaker Series from 6:00-7:00pm in the Helmerich Research & Learning Center on the third floor of the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street.
