On Saturday, December 15, lovers of history and seafaring can enjoy an illuminating two-hour excursion aboard the historic sailing vessel, “When and If,” a uniquely historic 76 year old yacht built for General (then Colonel) George S. Patton in 1939.
Originally commissioned by Patton with the intention of sailing around the world with his wife Bea, the “When and If” was designed by celebrated marine architect John Alden, and built by FF Pendleton, both for racing and safe, comfortable, and luxurious family voyaging.
Passengers on the December 15 voyage can enjoy wine and cheese on the open water while learning about the fascinating history and 21st century restoration of the classic yacht from the vessel’s Captain and crew.
Tickets for the historic sail, which embarks from Stock Island Marina Village at 7005 Shrimp Road at 1:00pm (12:30 check-in), are $60 for Society Members, $70 for non-members. Space is limited to 28 passengers, so early registration is recommended. Sponsored in part by the Helmerich Trust. For tickets and more information, visit kwahs.org, click ‘tickets,’ or call Danielle Holliday at 305-295-6616 extension 114.
