On Friday morning, Monroe County Emergency Management Director Marty Senterfitt was interviewed by Jeff Tavss, executive producer at WPLG Local 10, for the TV station’s upcoming Hurricane Season 2017 Special.

The special features meteorologist Max Mayfield, the former director of the National Hurricane Center. It is scheduled to air May 26 at 8 p.m., just days before the June 1 official start to the 2017 hurricane season.

Senterfitt spoke about Monroe County’s preparedness for tropical storms. He also explained the challenges emergency management face in the Florida Keys due to the unique geography as an island chain – with only one major road that has more than 40 bridges.

The interview took place at the Murray E. Nelson Government Center Park in Key Largo. Channel 10’s crew included chief photographer William Damas.
