Key West Art & Historical Society Distinguished Speaker Dan Burkhardt, conservationist and author of “Florida Bay Forever” will discuss the relationship between the Everglades and Florida Bay on Thursday, February 25, at the Custom House Museum.

On Thursday, February 25, from 6:00pm-7:00pm, the Key West Art & Historical Society welcomes the public to the Helmerich Research & Learning Center at the Custom House for “Everglades to the Keys and the Supply of Water,” a presentation by Dan Burkhardt, author of Florida Bay Forever.

The St. Louis native has had a home in Islamorada for nearly two decades and is a longtime supporter of the Everglades Foundation as well as founder of Magnificent Missouri and the Katy Land Trust, two conservation organizations in his home state. Dubbed “a coffee table book with a conscience” by the Key West Citizen, Florida Bay Forever details the relationship between the Everglades and the vulnerable waters of Florida Bay through original essays and stunning photography.

“The need for freshwater has been critical throughout the history of Key West and today,” says Burkhardt. “All of us rely upon healthy Everglades for our drinking water and other freshwater needs.”

“Everglades to the Keys and the Supply of Water” is sponsored by The Helmerich Trust, Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel and the Marion Stevens Fund and is part of the organization’s Distinguished Speaker Series, a twice-monthly program that highlights the abundant history and cultural assets of our islands through informal lectures.
