A Cemetery Stroll honoring Black History Month is planned for Saturday, February 21st. During the stroll, three groups of visitors will be escorted to gravesites where interpreters will tell the stories of the deceased in brief monologues.

Gravesites to be visited include: George Adderley; Willie Ward; Roosevelt Sands, Sr.; Thomas Romer; Sandy Cornish; and the U.S. Battleship Maine Memorial. The three groups will depart from inside the Frances St. gate every 20 minutes beginning at 9:30 am. The strolls will last approximately 90 minutes.

This is a terrific opportunity to learn first-hand about many of the African American people who contributed to Key West’s history. Space is limited to 30 people per group and pre-registration is required. To register, call 305-304-9931. A donation of $10 (cash or check) per person to the Historic Florida Keys Foundation is recommended.

This event is sponsored by the City of Key West and the Historic Florida Keys Foundation.
