Animal Farm Will Be Closed to the Public this Sunday

After consultation with our veterinarian, Dr. Doug Mader, and out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff’s Office Animal Farm is closing to the public this Sunday due to the infestation of screwworm in the Florida Keys. Normally, the farm is open on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 1 – 3 p.m.

The farm is located a considerable distance from the current infestation area, however it is not outside the realm of possibility that a visitor could carry larvae unknowingly onto the farm. The Sheriff’s Office does not want to risk the possibility of danger to the animals, or the risk of possibly spreading the infestation.

Quick actions are being taken to eradicate the infestation and we hope to be able to open the farm again soon, possibly as soon as the end of this month. We will reevaluate the situation at that time.

We thank everyone for their continued support of the Sheriff’s Office Animal Farm. We are confident everyone who loves the Animal Farm will understand out concern for our animals.
