Anonymous Tip Leads Police To Stash of Stolen Goods on Wisteria Island
Key West Police were back and forth all day Tuesday to Wisteria Island, retrieving tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen goods.
With the help of an anonymous tip, Key West Police Detectives recovered stolen fishing gear, electronics, sails, coolers, grills, dive gear and more from the offshore island.
The recovered property has been linked to several burglaries – including at least one burglary of an occupied structure – over the past several weeks. Many of the items were stolen from open boats. One group of burglary victims are seasonal residents of the military campground on Trumbo Point where grills and fishing gear and other items were stolen in one night.
In another case, the victims were home in a nearby gated community when the burglary occurred. The couple was upstairs in bed when a man jumped onto their second floor balcony. Although they scared the suspect off, they discovered in the morning that over $13,000 worth of dive and fishing gear had been stolen during the night.
Detectives are following several leads on suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Key West Police Department at 809-1000 or call Crime Stoppers of the Florida Keys at 1-346-800-TIPS.
Crime Stoppers of the Keys will pay up to $1,000 in cash for information that leads to an arrest in this case. Call the tips line of log on to www.tipsubmit.com. Tips submitted by email or phone are completely anonymous. In addition, tips can be submitted via text: just text to 274637.
