Key West Police Chief Donie Lee this week presents a $2000 check to A Positive Step of Monroe County Director Billy Davis in support of the program.

A Positive Step Monroe County is an effort to help socially and economically deprived adolescents obtain job training skills. This non-profit serves at risk kids and helps them become productive members of the community.

“The Key West Police Department needs programs like APSMC to help troubled youth and their families get the help they need,” said Chief Lee in his letter to the City and Commission seeking approval for the grant. “These programs provide assistance to work toward fixing the problems before police intervention becomes necessary.”

The money for the grant was taken from state forfeiture funds.
