Waste Management of the Florida Keys Donates Truck to Haiti
Waste Management of the Florida Keys is donating a garbage truck to an organization that is helping children and communities survive in impoverished and earthquake ravaged areas of Haiti.
Waste Management’s Greater Mid-Atlantic Area donated a truck to the Haitian organization, Love a Child, following the January 2010 earthquake. Allentown, PA Mayor Ed Pawlowski, who is involved with the organization, requested a second truck, and Waste Management’s Florida team was able to assist.
“We’re very pleased that we can provide a truck for Love a Child’s Miracle Village and Marketplace in Faun Prizon, a suburb of Port au Prince, Haiti,” said WM Sr. District Manager Greg Sullivan. “Our first truck has made a significant impact in Carrefour, Haiti and now we can be of service to another community in need.”
The Rev. Randy Landis, a member of Love a Child’s Board of Directors, said WM’s first donated truck remains in service in Carrefour.
“If you were to drive through the city of Carrefour today, compared to anywhere else, you would know there is waste service. The streets are clean,” said Landis. “The truck that is on its way from Florida to Haiti will service the marketplace and a 4,000-resident subdivision created for earthquake survivors treated in a Love a Child field hospital. We will hire and train those who will work on the truck bringing needed jobs to the area, too.”
Love a Child is one of the largest faith-based NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) operating in Haiti. For more information visit loveachild.com.
