Key West Police Chief Donie Lee swore in a new lieutenant Tuesday during the city commission meeting, one of two recent promotions within the Department.

Lt. Joe Tripp has served twice with the Key West Police Department. The Florida native has a degree in criminology from Florida State University. He started as an officer in 1991 and was promoted to sergeant in 1997. He left the department in 1999 but returned a decade later as an officer and quickly earned the rank of sergeant again.

Lt. Tripp has worked as an officer, a detective, a member of the Special Response Team and most recently as commander of the Professional Standards division. Lt. Tripp will oversee the night patrol.
