Taking the Musical “Helm” with Concert at the Fort
Taking the musical “Helm” with concert at the Fort—Fans of “The Band” take note: singer and musician Amy Helm and her band The Handsome Strangers debut her roots-rock vibe album “Didn’t It Rain” with a tour that rambles down to Key West for an outdoor evening concert on Saturday, April 16, at Fort East Martello as part of the “Music at Martello” series.
The daughter of drummer and vocalist Levon Helm of The Band and acclaimed singer-songwriter Libby Titus (who has penned compositions for Linda Ronstadt, Carly Simon, and Bonnie Raitt), and stepdaughter of Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, Helm has learned her chops from the best, garnering widespread praise as a singer, songwriter and live performer with an agile voice that moves between gospel, country, folk, and blues.
Doors open at 4:45 with an opening act at 5:45; Helm takes the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 at www.keywestconcerts.com or $25 at the door; Key West Art & Historical Society members can call 305.295.6616 x 106 for discounted tickets. Children under 12 admitted free. Parking will be available for $5, bike parking is free. Photo contributed. Your Museums. Your Community. It Takes an Island.
