Saturday Evening: Distinguished Speaker John C. Watts to Present “A Brief History of American Radio Drama”
This Saturday, April 9, from 6:00pm-7:00pm, the Key West Art & Historical Society welcomes the public to the Helmerich Research & Learning Center at the Custom House for “A Brief History of American Radio Drama,” a presentation by John C. Watts, artistic director for the Arts Radio Network Theatre Project, “A Brief History of American Radio Drama.”
Watts has spent the past 25 years as a producer for both audio and video productions and is in Key West this week for the recording of “Rebecca,” an Arts Radio Network Theatre Project production to take place at the Tropic Cinema on April 10 and air on WLRN in May.
Watts’ early career highlights were in sports, with positions at ESPN, the Golf Channel and NBC. For the past decade he has specialized in radio production and has produced several highly successful radio drama series on the stage, including a recreation of The Mercury Theatre’s infamous “War of the Worlds” broadcast at the Delray Beach Playhouse, and a series of plays at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
“A Brief History of American Radio Drama” is part of the KWAHS Distinguished Speaker Series, a twice-monthly program that highlights the abundant history and cultural assets of our islands through informal lectures. Sponsored by The Helmerich Trust and the Key West Marriott Beachside Hotel.
