Preserving Walls for our Future: Stabilization of Ft. Jefferson
Preserving Walls for our Future: Stabilization of Ft. Jefferson— Although this coastal defense fortification never had to fire a shot, Fort Jefferson has battled the extreme marine environment of the Straits of Florida for over 150 years. Dry Tortugas National Park Cultural Resources Specialist Kelly Jean Clark has planned, managed, and documented its preservation projects while handling compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act throughout the park for nearly a decade.
On Thursday, April 14, Clark will offer a brief history of the park and its fortification and detail the on-going stabilization of the exterior walls of Fort Jefferson as part of Key West Art & Historical Society’s Distinguished Speaker Series from 6:00-7:00pm in the Helmerich Research & Learning Center on the third floor of the Custom House Museum, 281 Front Street.
