Introducing The Greens
New Key West Group offers Civil War Jazz and Blue Grass
Nothing green around the ears when it comes to Key West’s newest band, The Greens.
Each member of the group came down from Tennessee last month. Now they have joined forces to bring a fresh country sound of Civil War Jazz and jam to the lower Keys.
Steve LaPierre… the popular Key West street painter, and cofounder of the Love Lane Gang, is back from recording a CD of original songs and work with friends from Nashville’s Old Crow Medicine Show. The burly stand-up bass player has now joined forces with Key West banjo player, bar none, Jason Shore.
“We wanted to bring a new thing to Key West, where jazz and old -time roots music would meet,” said LaPierre.
“We love to take an early jazz, blue grass, or gypsy favorite; start it simply and begin to jazz it up, before we jam it out. Every song we do at every gig has its own life and its own sound.”
Lead vocalist, Alex Ball, a 26 year-old fiddler, mandolin and guitar player from the mountain town of Johnson City, Tennessee, along with another 26 year-old wonder, Rob Cook, the popular Duval Street washboard- tie guy on percussion, from Knoxville, round out this quartet of breath-taking musicians.
Grab your entire household and go enjoy some healthy musical fun this week with The Greens.
