Florida Keys Seafood Festival January 13 & 14
The Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen’s Association (FKCFA) invite locals and visitors to come and enjoy the freshest seafood caught, prepared and served by local fisherman and their families. The event is held at Bayview Park, located at Truman Avenue and Jose Marti Drive, on Saturday, January 13 from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.
The savory seafood menu features fresh Fried Fish baskets or platters with slaw and black beans & rice, Fried clams basket, Grilled Spiny Lobster Platters, Sampler Platters with fish, stone crab, conch fritter, conch ceviche, key west pink shrimp and french fries, Stone Crab Claws with key lime mustard sauce, peel and eat Key West Pink Shrimp with cocktail sauce, Smoked Fish Dip with crackers, Creamy Lobster Bisque, Bahamian style Conch Chowder, Conch Ceviche, & Conch Fritters. Hot dogs and hamburgers also will be for sale. Beverages include beer, wine, rumaritas, rum runners, water, and soda. Desserts included Estella’s Famous Flan and Natilla, Key Lime Pie and other homemade treats.
Saturday’s Entertainment kicks off with Cayo Ritmo and special guest Mustafa Akbar at 11 am offering Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Cha-Cha, as well island favorite pop. At 1 pm The Shanty Hounds, featuring the singer/songwriting duo of Dani Hoy and Key West Chris Rehm, will play a variety of trop rock original music and covers from many genres. At 3 pmMiami-based The REGS BAND headline offering a pure non-stop adrenaline, Live Rock n Roll show. Finally, at 6 pm Miss Demeanor, from Fort Lauderdale, focus on the rock songs of the 90s but also dabble in country, a little classic rock and some current hits.
On Sunday don’t miss Miguel Perez & The Square Grouper at 11 am who washed up on the shores of Key West ready to bring the party. Key West native and lead singer Miguel Perez sings and raps original songs about Key West and covers unique renditions of popular songs. At 2 pm legendary performer (as chronicled in Jimmy Buffett’s 1999 hit “I Will Play for Gumbo”) Bill “Sauce Boss” Wharton brings his Florida slide guitar blues, his gumbo, and his own hot sauce to this multi-sensory performance. His show includes a culinary demonstration with audience stirring and sampling the gumbo. And at 3:30 pm until the show closes at 5, enjoy some local flavor with an authentic Island Jam.
New this year, top Key West area chefs will demonstrate recipes using fresh catch from our fisherman and sustainable ingredients, providing inspiration and guidance for how guests can cook with local seafood in their own homes. Well-known eateries include Hogfish Bar & Grill, Three Hands Fish. Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar at The Perry Hotel Key West, Ocean Grill & Bar and Lost Kitchen Supper Club Key West/ Key West Personal Chef will lead the show. Equipment will be provided by the Restaurant Store. Scheduled for the top of each hour, seating is limited and first come for these free demonstrations.
Other activities include more than 70 vendors, a Boat Show by Caribee Boat Sales and Marina & Marathon Boat Yard Marine Center as well as hands on marine activities for the kids from Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Reef Relief and more.
Entry is $5 and offers a chance to win a $250 seafood basket shipped straight to the winner’s home. This fundraiser supports sustainable fisheries management programs on both State and Federal levels and scholarships for college bound students from Key Largo to Key West. Kids under 12 are free.
Parking around the park is difficult! Ride a bike, take the bus, uber or a $5 donation per vehicle to the youth at the middle school will get you a parking space.
