Disgrace in DC

letter to the editor
Send us you letters

Dear Naja,

Just before midnight March 3rd, I came upon a Photo on my Facebook page which said in bold print: “CONGRESS IS LIKE 2 DRUNKS ARGUING THE BAR BILL ON THE TITANIC.”  The sponsor of this site is a college group called YALiberty site located at www.YALiberty.com.

Since I liked the message which was headed: “Errrrrmmm, Yup”, so, I decided to “share” it with my Friends.  Further, I gave it my own bold headline: “KEEP PUSHING THIS REALITY.   SAY SO IN A LETTER TO AN EDITOR.”  So now I’m obliged to take my own advice, because of the ongoing, shameful disgrace in DC, which merits corrective citizen action.

As a white, liberal male, I’m politically uninterested in anything right of center, However, I do respond to concepts of Liberty as being open to tolerance and new ideas for a society’s progress and pursuit of happiness.  However, the word liberty has been co-opted by conservatives as the freedom to amass as much money and power as possible: Greedy Old Plutocrats (GOP).

There were a few other pointed Photos: a picture of Mark Twain saying: “I am an anti-imperialist.  I am opposed to have the eagle put its talons on any other land.” There was another disturbing picture from The Guardian headed: “The Disappeared: Chicago police detain Americans at abuse-laden ‘black-site’.” This story about a Horman Square building that has been popular with main-stream media this week.

Lastly, there was a bitchy Rand Paul photo complaining: “One thing is clear: the founding fathers never intended a nation where citizens would pay nearly half of everything they earn to the government.”  I have some issues about the latter as things have changed since our founders wrote our Constitution.

Anyway, Naja, I have discharged my own advice by writing to an editor about the shameful condition in Washington.  However, in conclusion, I should add a word about YAL.

According to Wikipedia, “Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) is a 501(c)(3)political organization that was formed in 2008 at the end of Congressman Ron Paul‘s presidential campaign. They focus on educating their peers about various topics including libertarian values and emphasizing the role of the Constitution in the American government.”

Do not confuse YAL with Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), which according to Wikipedia  is an ideologically conservative youth activism organization that was founded in 1960 as a coalition between traditional conservatives and libertarians.  I’m sure there’s a BIG difference between the two groups.

Sincerely,

John N. Gish Jr.
