Call For Stories to Accompany Key West Art & Historical Society Exhibit Bars, Brews and Blues: Carousing in Key West
In preparation for their upcoming exhibit, “Bars, Brews and Blues: Carousing in Key West,” the Key West Art & Historical Society actively seeks stories from citizens with Key West bar carousing adventures to share. Be part of the oral history component of this exhibit by calling 305-295-6563.
The exhibit will open November 20, 2015 and runs through March 29, 2016 at the Custom House Museum, located at 281 Front Street. The Bryan gallery will be recreated to resemble of one of Key West’s most historic and celebrated bars— The Green Parrot— and will explore Key West’s long association with bars, drinking, and revelry through a historic lens to include the island’s watering holes, singer/songwriters, and patrons. It will investigate why there are so many bars on such a small island, the idea of Prohibition, and how Key West largely ignored this Constitutional Amendment.
The exhibit’s opening reception is Friday, November 20 from 6-8 pm and is sponsored in part by the Green Parrot Bar, Sloppy Joe’s Bar, Chloe & Rob Watters, Off The Hook Grill Key West, and Azur Restaurant. For more information, contact Cori Convertito at 305.295.6616 x 112.
