Poetry Guild Spotlights Boguszewski
The Key West Poetry Guild on Sunday, December 6, will again feature the work of Vicki Boguszewski. The Guild meets at 7 p.m. upstairs at Blue Heaven, Thomas at Petronia streets in Old Town. All poets, visitors and locals alike, are invited to read their original work and auditors are welcome as well. Nance Boylan will moderate.
Boguszewski is a longtime Guild member and serves as corresponding secretrary of the Guild’s informal coordinating committee. In case of rain, the meeting is postponed until the following Sunday.
From Pine Hill, NJ, the poet often credits her high school English teacher for her strong guidance. She graduated magna cum laude from Temple University with a BA in cultural anthropology in January of 1995. In May of 1996 she relocated to Key West and joined the poetry guild that June. There are no dues to belong to the group and regular attendees are welcomed as members.
For poetic inspiration, her travels have taken her to Europe, across the United States, up and down the East Coast, into the deserts of Tucson and northern Mexico, as well as into the Caribbean and the Ocala National Forest, skirting the edges of Lake Okeechobee and plunging into the swamps and hammocks of the Big Cypress Preserve and the Everglades National Park.
Boguszewski is author of “Mesourse,” a collection of illustrated poems (SeaStory Press, 2008) and her work appeared in the guild’s “Key West, I Love You, An Anthology of Love Poems” (SeaStory Press 2012). As a performance poet she has been featured with the League of Crafty Musicians and with Peter Diamond and Friends at the Midsummer’s Night Dream and Spectacle. Her next collection of work is nearing completion.
In addition, she is a local food activist, a food gardener, has worked in the Public School District, practices Yoga and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). She holds a Master’s of Public Health from Florida International University and blogs at http://yogiinya.wordpress.com.
