Commissioners Billy Wardlow named former City Commissioner Tony Yaniz as an ambassador to Cuba during last week’s City Commission meeting.

“For over 40 years I’ve had a dream of rebuilding the cultural and historical ties between these islands,” Yaniz said. “I am honored and humbled and also proud. This is the culmination of 45 years of work.”

He told the commission that he plans on putting together a committee of residents and business owners to work toward opening the ties between Key West and Cuba.
