It’s going to be a Sun-Day Fun-Day on June 28 and Sister Season Fund hopes the whole adult community will turn out for the 38th annual Survivors Party, to be held upstairs at Rick’s, 202 Duval St. from 2 till 6 p.m. It’s the continuing story of “locals helping locals” and a grand celebration of the end of Season 2015.

The Survivors Party was founded by John “Ma” Evans to raise funds to assist locals in the hospitality and entertainment industries with basic expenses (rent, utilities) during what, in those days, was the slow off-season. Sister Season Fund is the home-grown charity established 10 years ago to carry the idea forward and now hosts a wide variety of benefits to help when industry locals can’t work due to no fault of their own. $270,000 in financial assistance has been raised and distributed within the 33040 zip code.

Survivors, however, is still the biggest party of the year and the beach party has grown more sophisticated in the past few years. The whole Upstairs Bar at Rick’s will be dedicated to this year’s adults-only celebration which includes a yummy picnic buffet featuring hot dogs and all the trimmings, baked beans, pulled pork sliders and salads, the traditionally huge silent auction, 50/50 and raffles, and a Wheel of Fortune plus entertainment by Melody Cooper and Jonathon Romero.

A bicycle donated by Eaton Bikes, painted by Scott Allison, will be offered as a raffle or special auction prize.

The Survivors committee sounds like a roster of former Fantasy Fest royalty: SSF President Emeritus Ginger King is working with Julie Hanson and Surrey Westrupp as well as Errin Harrelson, Laurie Thibaud and the rest of the current SSF board.
Among major event sponsors are Rick’s; the Townsend Team, Doug Mayberry Real Estate Company Inc.; US 1 104.1; and Wail 99. Admission, 18 and over only, is $20.

At press time the committee was still welcoming additional volunteers able to give an hour or two any time from 1 p.m.set up until break down after 6 p.m. Additional items for the silent auction, especially gift baskets and bar tabs will be appreciated as well. To offer support or assistance to this very worth charity please call Hanson at (305) 304-9828 or email her at [email protected].
