Parade Celebrates Girls Softball Champs

A parade on Wednesday will help seal the celebration of three remarkable softball teams who won this summer’s State Championships.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. at Key West High School. The route will take Bertha to South Roosevelt Blvd, then back down Flagler Avenue and return to the high school.

The Key West City Commission is poised this evening to celebrate the achievements of the Key West Lady Conchs and the Key West Knockouts three travel softball teams.

The Key West Lady Conchs 8-U Softball Team finished a remarkable 2015 season by winning the State Championship during the USSSAA South Florida State Softball Tournament on July 3-5, 2015 in West Palm Beach. The Lady Conchs players, parents, coaches and fans traveled through the State of Florida competing in six tournaments, and skyrocketing to the 4th ranked team in the entire nation. The team members are: Nevaeh Arnold, Skylar Barras, Zoe Barras, Chloe Gilday, Mila Graves, Dianna Holliman, Alexandra Rodriguez, Gabi Ruiz, Danielle Scali, Aubrey Segrest, Allison Smith, Catherine Van Staden and Julene Vega.

The Key West Lady Conchs U-10 Softball Travel Team won the USSSA South Florida State Tournament, playing nine games in three days amassing a winning record of 7-2. The team members are: Yahaira Williams, Marina Goins, Madison Gonzalez, Montunique Van Staden, Meisha Hernandez, Natalina Tobin, Reily Ryan, Dharma Murray, Emily Bracher, Savanna Delph, Caroline Smith and Madeline Marciniak.

The Key West Knockouts U-14 Softball Travel Team were crowned champions of the USAA South Florida State Softball Tournament. The team members are: Neily Bran, Analise DeValle, Madison Garcia, Chloe Hartle, Amore Horan, Breanna Kissel, Lauren Klitenick, Paige Moore, Julia Shepard, Jade Castillo, and Jade Vaugh.

“Key West is proud of these young athletes who illustrate what a team can accomplish together with hard work, dedication and self-confidence,” reads the proclamation.

The proclamations also recognize the amazing support and work of the coaches. Thanks to U-8 Head Coach Shawn Smith and Assistant Coaches Nardus Van Staden, Shane Arnold and David Holliman. Thanks to U-10 Coach Chad Rodriguez, Assistant Head Coach Brian Rodriguez and Assistant Coaches Michael Hernandez and Rob Delph. And thank you to U-14 Coach Jason Garcia, Coach Manuel Castillo and Coach Chris Zuelch and Coach Gary Moore.

“On behalf of the entire community,” reads the proclamation, “we applaud these young athletes for the achievements and wish them much continued success.”
