PEACE THROUGH EDUCATION

Cuba will soon welcome three Key West preschool teachers as part of a Teacher Training for Innovative Learning Program planned and hosted by Fundación Amistad, a not-for- profit organization whose mission is to foster good relations between the US and Cuba.

Teachers Karina Bowders, Marjorie Calderon and Director, Amy O’Connor of The Children’s School will be headed to Havana, Cuba on June 27th to bring their knowledge of “Positive Discipline” a child- centered Montessori curriculum as well as classroom materials to share with preschool teachers in the island nation of Cuba. The goal of this visit is to create a level of innovation in the existing curriculum of the preschool centers that Fundación Amistad currently assists with. Amy O’Connor says the teachers are excited for the opportunity to share their knowledge and look forward to more visits in the future. Fundación Amistad is covering all travel expenses for the five day trip.

Christy Alcebo, a representative from Fundación Amistad believes this training program is a wonderful chance for both countries to learn from one another “Our mission is to foster good relations between the US and Cuba. We do so through our People-to- People trips, restoration works, humanitarian aid, community projects, and much, much more!”
