BOCA CHICA KEY – Monroe County Fire Rescue participated in three days of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) live fire training this week at Naval Air Station Key West’s Boca Chica Airfield.

NAS Key West Emergency Services hosted the joint training, which provided an opportunity for their units to train side-by-side with their mutual aid partners at Monroe County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters practiced putting out six scenarios of aircraft fires during the training.

Sixteen MCFR ARFF Firefighters, most stationed at Key West International Airport, took part in the training. They practiced extinguishing fires in six aircraft locations: cabin, flight deck, exterior fuselage, jet engine, landing gear and interior cargo hold.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires all ARFF Certified Firefighters to participate in at least one Aircraft Live Fire Drill annually.
