Join Last Stand board members Friday February 12th from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the BottleCap Blue Room, 1128 Simonton Street in Key West for a happy hour fundraiser and take this opportunity to give your opinions on current issues of the day. There will be raffles and prizes, plus all tips will benefit Last Stand operating costs. There is never an off-season for quality of life issues in the Florida Keys. The board is working to define policy positions on a variety of topics, including the Peary Court Referendum, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Regulations Review, Affordable Housing throughout Monroe County, Offshore Island Zoning proposals, Key West Land Development Regulations and more. This Friday is a great opportunity to give Last Stand board members your thoughts and ideas. Last Stand has long been known as a watch-dog group that frequently advises local, state and Federal elected officials how proposed changes may impact the environment and our quality of life in the Florida Keys. Recently the organization renewed its contract with the Everglades Law Center to assist in monitoring developments and providing research so an informed opinion may be voiced. These legal fees are the biggest budget line item for Last Stand, but the services have significantly enhanced the effectiveness of the locally led volunteer group. “We have the support of a generous foundation gift to help cover the 2016 Everglades Law Center contract, but proceeds from fundraisers like this event at the BottleCap Blue Room will enable Last Stand to continue its advocacy for the environment,” said board president Mark Songer. The 2016 membership campaign is still in progress. You can renew or join Last Stand for a $25 individual or $40 family annual membership donation at the event. As a special incentive, we will be distributing Last Stand vintage T-shirts for all memberships paid at this event. Last Stand is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote, preserve and protect Key West, the Florida Keys and their environs with a particular emphasis on the environment.
