Lane Closures Begin Sunday for Garrison Bight Bridge Repair Project

REPAIR PROJECT FOR GARRISON BIGHT BRIDGE BEGINS SUNDAY NIGHT IN KEY WEST; EXPECT LANE CLOSURES

Monroe County’s repair project for the 177-foot Garrison Bight Bridge in Key West will begin Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at 9 p.m.

The work to replace the joints on the bridge deck and repave a portion of Palm Avenue will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., until the project is complete. The road work is expected to take about three weeks, but the contractor has until Sept. 30.

During the first phase, beginning Aug. 20, the west bound lanes on Palm Avenue will be closed from North Roosevelt Boulevard to Eisenhower Drive. Traffic will be able to travel along the east bound lane of Palm Avenue.

When the westbound lane is complete, the east bound lane will be shut down and traffic will be able to travel on the westbound lane during the night working hours.

The $1.5 million project includes repair work underneath the bridge, which originally was built in 1965. The project’s construction, engineering and inspection is primarily funded by a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) grant. Monroe County is providing matching grant funds of $565,000 to the project.
