If your child was choking, would you know what to do? If your baby stopped breathing, do you know how to respond? The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition invites all parents and caregivers to attend a CPR class in Marathon or Key West to learn invaluable life-saving skills.

The class will cover infant/child CPR, choking prevention, poison control, shaken baby prevention, and basic first aid. Participants will Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Ready Reference to take home. To keep costs affordable, it is taught by a Red Cross certified instructor and will cover the same information but will not result in certification. The classes are for adults only and no child care will be provided.

These two classes are being offered outside of regular business hours, especially to accommodate working parents and caregivers.

The Marathon class will be held Thursday, March 9, from 5:30-7:30 pm. It will be held at the Hammock House at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 451 52nd St, Gulfside.

The Key West class will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 9-11 am. It will be held at the Gato Building Conference Room, 1100 Simonton Street.

Pre-registration is required.
To register, please call (305) 293-8424 by March 6 for the Marathon class and April 4 for Key West.
The $25 registration fee is payable with exact cash or check at the class, or online at KeysHealthyStart.org at least 2 days in advance of the class.

“We are committed to making sure that babies in the Keys are born healthy and have a safe future,” said Arianna Nesbitt, Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition CEO. “Hosting these CPR classes is just one more way we can assist parents. Since 88% of cardiac incidents occur at home, attending this class will give parents the skills that may save their child or loved one’s life in an emergency situation.”

The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition helps families before, during and after pregnancy. The CPR classes are offered as part of the Coalition’s Keys for Kids’ Safety Program funded in part by the Ocean Reef Community Foundation and the Sheriff’s Asset Forfeiture Fund.

If you need accommodations to participate, call Rebecca at 305-293-8424 or email fkhsc@yahoo.com at least 3 days in advance of the class to make your request. For more information on the upcoming classes or any of our other free programs, please contact 305-293-8424 or fkhsc@yahoo.com. We believe every baby deserves a healthy start, as well as a safe future.
