On Saturday, November 28, Eric Anfinson’s 6th annual calendar of paintings will be released at Salt Island Provisions on 830 Fleming Street from 6pm – 9 pm, with a celebration to include refreshments and live music from acoustic singer-songwriter Lance Taylor.

The 2016 calendar features thirteen original oil paintings that showcase Anfinson’s distinct figurative style with a curated selection of the artist’s work from the year leading up to the calendar’s release.

”Each year there is a decision to be made about the feel of the calendar as a whole,” says Anfinson. “This year, we embraced the beauty, the brush strokes, and the light.”

When Anfinson says “we,” he is talking about himself and fellow artist, designer and Salt Editions publisher Kimberly Narenkivicius. The two have collaborated on Anfinson’s print designs for more than a decade, including the series of limited edition calendars. Narenkivicius hosts the launch of Anfinson’s calendar at her pop-up shop and gallery on Fleming Street, where guests can also enjoy a selection of the original artwork.

The calendar has become an anticipated offering for Anfinson’s many fans, allowing them a peek inside his private Mockingbird Studio where he paints full time as well as a chance to live with one of his beautiful paintings every month, each curated to “match up the feeling of the image to the season of the year,” says Anfinson.

“For example, “Morning Chill” is a piece that has the brisk northern chill of February, whereas ”Mother of Butterflies” has the coming of summer energy of May,” he says.

The self-taught painter has an affinity for stories and a power for uncovering what an image might imply in our own lives. His work offers an intimacy and immediacy the viewer cannot ignore. Midway through the 2016 calendar he strikes the inquiry with “El Camino,” asking us “is she looking at the road that lays ahead or is she pondering the path she has traveled thus far?”

The collectable, high-quality print calendar can be purchased for $24.99 at Salt Island Provisions and via the artist’s website at EricAnfinson.com. Special discounts are available for multiple purchases.

Notes the artist, “As before, famous artists birthday and the cycles of the moon are included.”
