On Friday, February 5 from 5:30PM-7:00PM, Key West Art & Historical Society welcomes the public to “I AM in Your Dream,” a reception for the exhibition inspired by Artist Vera Vasek’s “Which Way Is Up” workshop in the Society’s adolescent and adult education program, “Outside The Lines.” The reception will take place at Fort East Martello on the second floor of the citadel.

More than a dozen students from Key West High School, Key West Collegiate Academy, and two home-schooled teens gathered over four consecutive Saturdays in January at historic Fort East Martello to construct the collaborative, multidisciplinary installation led by Vasek. Students assembled elements of the installation narrative by referencing the history and artifacts of the Fort; it represents the culmination of creative process from idea to formulation to creation.

“The Citadel is like a living organism,” says the Society’s Director of Education Adele Williams. “The calcite deposits from years of weathering have formed cave-like features. It is intriguing to watch Vera and the students draw on their surroundings and personal experiences to create an instillation unique to the environment.”

Outside the Lines is sponsored by David Wolkowsky, Denis Savoie Construction, UVA Wine Shoppe and Wine Bar, and Keys to the Kitchen Wholly Hummus.
