The Tennessee Williams Key West Exhibit is celebrating the playwright’s March birthday by providing a series of cultural events to be held throughout the month. Artist and writers are invited to participate in three contests being offered as part of the celebration: Short Story Writing, Poetry and Plein Air Painting.

Registration and submission deadline for the writing contest is March 5. Professor Susanne Woods is coordinating the contest and will join other published writers in selecting the winners. Registration and submission for the poetry contest is March 17. Respected poets will join coordinator Nancy Boylan from the Key West Poetry Guild in judging poetry submissions. There is a possibility that the entries in the short story and poetry contests will be published in an on-line
publication.

This year’s painting contest is again coordinated by Cori Convertito, curator at the Key West Art and Historical Society. Registration deadline for the plein air painting contest is March 17. The painting event will be held on March 19 from 9 to noon at the Waterfront Playhouse, the subject of this year’s painting contest. Dr. Convertito and other community art leaders will serve as judges. The winning painting will be featured on the cover of the playhouse’s 2016-2017 playbill. Additionally, first and second place winners in all three contests will receive cash prizes.
