2016 Key West World Championship Powerboat Races -Special Local Regulation

U.S. COAST GUARD SECTOR KEY WEST REGULATED AREA

1. The 2016 Key West World Championship Powerboat Races will be held on November 9, 11, and 13, 2016 on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off of Key West Harbor, Key West, FL.

2. A Special Local Regulation encompassing the race course, safety buffer zone and spectator area has been established by the Captain of the Port (COTP) Key West, FL.

3. This Special Local Regulation will be enforced from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on November 9, 11, and 13, 2016.

4. During the enforcement period, no person or vessel may enter, transit through, anchor, or remain within the regulated race and safety buffer area without permission from the COTP or his designated representative.

5. A succession of not less than 5 short whistle or horn blasts from a patrol vessel will be the signal for any non-event participating vessel to take immediate steps to avoid collision. Also, the display of a red distress flare from a patrol vessel will be a signal for any and all vessels, including event participants inside the regulated area, to stop immediately.

6. Mariners are advised to anchor in sandy bottom to prevent damaging seagrass, coral, macroalgae, sponges, and other hardbottom community species.
